JRN203 Charts Assignment

TEEN PREGNANCIES IN THE UNITED STATES

Only 38% of pregnant teens will finish High School and receive a High School diploma. Unexpected pregnancies affect thousands of teens across the United States daily. Nearly 3 in 10 teens will become pregnant before age 20.  That alone gives enough reason to inform teens and students about precautionary measures that can be taken to prevent teen pregnancy.

In the various charts, these numbers can be visualized to see exactly how many teens are affected by teen pregnancies. In the bar graph, the number of teen pregnancies in 2014 are depicted by states in the Midwest. This way we can visualize what states had the greatest and which states had the least number of teen pregnancies.

The pie chart shows the rate of pregnancies by race among Asian and Pacific Islanders, Caucasians, American Indians and African Americans.  This allows for us to see what races have the most teen pregnancies and what races have the least.

The last graph, the line graph, shows how the number of teen pregnancies overall in the United States has decreased over the years. From 1988 to 2008 we are able to see how the number of teen pregnancies has decreased.  As students and teens become more educated over the years the number steadily decreases.
