JRN200 Assignment-3, Post-2

Many students at Michigan State University struggle to stay focused on their school work because they find that what is happening on Twitter, Facebook or Snapchat is much more interesting than their school work. Lauren Miller also finds that people are more willing to say something more bold over text or on social media because they are hiding behind a screen. Haley Schultz also believes that students will post something risky or funny on social media because they think the person won't confront them.  Social media has improved immensely since its' birth and students at Michigan State believe that it has caused less face-to-face interaction since then.  However, they also believe that it allows for students to be able to communicate with people and meet new people easier.

In an era revolving around technological advancements, students at Michigan State University find it strenuous to endure face to face interactions while distracted by the pull of social media. Students across campus rely on their phones and laptop computers for social and educational purposes. However, it is difficult for many students to stay focused on school work while being pulled to their phones that just went off because of a notification.   Facebook , Twitter, and Snapchat cause major distractions for students and we will be researching how exactly students are affected by this.  Do students believe that social media is overly positive or negative? How are their social lives affected by these social media sites?

TEEN PREGNANCIES IN THE UNITED STATES Only 38% of pregnant teens will finish High School and receive a High School diploma. Unexpected pregnancies affect thousands of teens across the United States daily. Nearly 3 in 10 teens will become pregnant before age 20.  That alone gives enough reason to inform teens and students about precautionary measures that can be taken to prevent teen pregnancy.     In the various charts, these numbers can be visualized to see exactly how many teens are affected by teen pregnancies. In the bar graph, the number of teen pregnancies in 2014 are depicted by states in the Midwest. This way we can visualize what states had the greatest and which states had the least number of teen pregnancies.   The pie chart shows the rate of pregnancies by race among Asian and Pacific Islanders, Caucasians, American Indians and African Americans.   This allows for us to see what races have the most teen pregnancies and what races ...

In interviewing students with jobs on campus  at Michigan State University, it is clear that many students obtain a job in order to make extra cash to pay for an apartment, tuition or for just some extra spending money.  They all enjoy different aspects of their job which makes each and every job on campus unique. The student who worked at Starbucks throughly loves her job because of how great her coworkers are and she enjoys making different kinds of drinks.  The student who works at the Holmes front desk loves her job because she is able to finish up homework when she finishes her tasks for work. Lastly, the student at Sparty's loves her job because her boss is flexible with scheduling. Although, some of the cons of working at these various locations include having to work on time management and having less of a social life.

Having a job while being a student has its’ positive and negative attributions. A 10 to 20 hour a week job can impact college students’ social and academic lives.  Students with jobs must work to improve their time-management skills while maintaining good grades. It may be difficult for many students to accomplish this while enrolled in 12 to 18 credits of classes. Some students may work under a work study to pay for their tuition and some may work just to get some extra cash for their pockets. Many may work so that they can afford to live in a house or apartment versus living in the dorms. Various places for students to work while living on the Michigan State University campus are Sparty's Refresh , Starbucks, a retail store on Grand River Ave., at a cafeteria or a resident's hall desk. After following O’Connor around before, during and after his workout today, it is clear that he is very dedicated to staying active.   His Starbucks Reserve caffeinated coffees this morning gave him the extra boost of energy he needed to get him through his long workout. While at the gym, he completed a variety of exercises including upper body exercises and abdominal exercises. O’Connor gets many of his workout ideas and workout plans from a company called BodyBuilding . It allows for him to switch up his workout so that he never gets bored. Today, he worked out with his friend Kris who pushes him to be his best. After lifting weights, he finished his workout up by playing some basketball which is a hobby of his. That allows him to cool his body down, stretch his muscles and do some extra cardio before heading back to his dorm for the day.
